London's Earls Court Exhibition Centre has announced that it will close its doors for the final time after the 2012 Olympics.

By 2012 the famous venue will contribute to an estimated 22 billion pounds into the UK economy.

The closure will see a change of venue for many  British shows including the Ideal Home Show, the Great British Beer Festival, the BRIT Awards and The MPH Motor Show.

London property developers Capital and Counties  are making plans to knock down Earls Court Exhibition centre into a residential site. Press Officer Chris Rumfitt  says "the development will be a vital new part of London with a possible 20,000 jobs in the bag".

The actual closing date is expected to take place shortly after the venue plays its part in hosting the volleyball competition of the 2012 Olympics.

Certainly, the decision to shut Earls Court is hardly unexpected, as it has struggled to keep ahead of the game after increased rivalry from Excel London and the O2.

The domination and popularity of these two Docklands based sites looks set to grow from strength to strength. In future it looks like exhibition-loving Britons will just have to head east for our annual home, beer, car and possiby brits awars show.
