A baby boy hit by a falling lamppost in West London died in hospital this morning.
Police found the boy and a 62 year old woman outside Chiswick Town Hall on Tuesday. The boy was seriously injured and was taken by air ambluance to hospital. The woman, who was not with the boy, was taken by ambulance suffering from minor injuries but was discharged on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Hounslow Council issued a statement saying work was being carried out in the area as part of the Turnham Green 'traffic and transport improvement scheme.'
Hounslow CID are working together with the Health and Safety Executive of the investigation.
A spokeswoman for the council said there were no contractors on the site at the time of the accident. She added they would be co-operating fully with the investigation.
