Petrol prices fuel anger.

According to the AA, London and East Anglia have the highest average price for fuel in the UK, an average of £112.6 per litre, which is a penny above the national average.

Whilst it may not sound like much,
that could equal well over a hundred
pounds a year for a London commuter.

Worse- the price is an average, so
many people will be paying well over
the odds for that- in fact we could only
find one petrol station, in New Cross,
with a price LESS than the London average.

Well it certainly isn't because crude oil
prices are high- at $77 per barrel they
are 25% lower than they were in
January 2008
, and yet fuel is 3-4 pence
more expensive.

How does a litre of
fuel break down?

  • Petrol Fuel Duty - 48.35p
  • VAT (17.5%) - 14.9p
  • Refinery Petrol Costs - 31.75p
  • Forecourt Costs - 3p
  • Forecourt Profit - 2p
