On March the 2nd and 3rd, volunteers from the Charity Thames21 will take to the river to give it a 'deep clean'.
At the Isle of Dogs, Fulham, North Woolwich and Hammersmith volunteers will pick up litter, remove graffiti and create a better enviroment for wildlife. The charity is taking advantage of the Thames being at it's lowest tide in the year, which will uncover more rubbish then usual.
The charity is partnered with British Airways, ENCAMS, Enviroment Agency, Port of London Authority and Thames Water. Each year it organises over 100 cleanups along the 400 mile network of London waterways, working with communities, businesses and local groups.
As well as cleaning the Thames the charity also has a number of other ways Londoner's can get involved in looking after their river. Adopt a river scheme for example, allows Londoner's to form a group and look after a stretch of a river with the support of Thames21.
Thames21 provides all the equiptment needed including boots, health and safety insurance, training and publicity.
